Digital Special Collections Librarian

The University of Waterloo Library is seeking an innovative and dynamic professional librarian to fill a
position in the Special Collections department. The successful candidate will, in collaboration with
others, develop and implement the Library’s digital preservation program, including policies, workflows
and processes for the appraisal, acquisition, description, storage, preservation and discovery of
University and Library academic and administrative digital assets, collections and archives.

Reporting to the Head, Special Collections the incumbent will liaise with the University Records Manager
and other university officials, in identifying university digital assets of enduring institutional value,
and in developing strategies for their long-term preservation and use. Information access management
aspects of this position include appraisal, accessioning, arrangement, description and preservation of
archival materials, both digital and analogue.

Qualifications
* An MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent.
* Several years’ experience with the creation and management of digital special collections and/or archives.
* Significant experience with the acquisition and appraisal of archival materials through analysis or
implementation of retention scheduling, internal transfer, and/or donor negotiation processes.
* A sound knowledge of the arrangement and description of personal and/or institutional records in
accordance with the Rules for Archival Description (RAD).
* Experience providing reference and research services to patrons.
* Experience with archives management software.
* Demonstrated initiative and outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* A resourceful, innovative self-starter who manages multiple tasks and competing priorities well.
* Works well both independently and as a team member in a collaborative and collegial environment.
* Experience planning and implementing digitization projects.
