Legislative Library
12 month contract / secondment
The Office of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Legislative Library seeks an energetic, service-oriented individual to join its Client Service team of Research Librarians. Secondments from Ontario government libraries will also be considered.
Research Librarians provide confidential, non-partisan reference service to Members of the Provincial Parliament, their staff, and staff of the Legislative Assembly. The Library staff are called upon to research a wide range of issues, and to deliver to tight deadlines. Our clients work in a fast-paced, demanding environment, and require a high level of Library service. This position will appeal to candidates who learn quickly, enjoy variety and challenge in their work, and who are comfortable speaking to groups.
Reporting to the Manager, Library Client Services, you will: deliver general and specialized reference and information services to Library clients; team with colleagues across the Information and Technology Services Division to provide innovative information services; and support library operations (training, assisting in library technology projects, collection management projects, etc).
To qualify for this position you must have a Master’s degree in Library or Information studies (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library/information school program, and a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in reference or research. Knowledge of government documents and a least one of the following specializations would be an asset: legal research, business tools and information, environmental policy/science. Your collaboration and training skills will be used in an exacting and fast-moving environment – flexibility and judgment are definite assets. The salary range for this position is $64,688 - $82,467.
