Selkirk College invites applications for a part-time, 20 hours per week, Library Technician/Bookshop Clerk position on the Tenth Street campus in Nelson. This is a sessional, temporary replacement position that may become permanent.
Reporting to the College Librarian, the incumbent of this position will be responsible for the circulation of library materials and assisting patrons in the use of library databases, other information sources and interlibrary loan services. With the functional supervision of the Bookshop Manager, duties include acting as salesperson and cashier, balancing cash, preparing revenue reports, calculating and preparing month end spreadsheets in MS Excel, receiving, processing and maintaining bookshop materials, responding to enquiries and giving assistance to customers, undertaking visual merchandising displays, processing student tuition payments, and other related duties as required. Some work duties may be assigned at other campuses.
Applicants require successful completion of a Library Technician Diploma, as well as an Office Administration Certificate or equivalent, retail sales experience and a minimum of two (2) years experience in a post-secondary library. Applicants should be customer-oriented, with self-confidence, excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills and good physical condition (heavy lifting is required). A working knowledge of the SIRSI integrated library system would be an asset.
Salary is Pay Grade 6 - $22.80 per hour, in accordance with the PPWC Collective Agreement. This sessional position is a temporary replacement. The start date will be August 27, 2012 through to April 18, 2013. These dates may be adjusted.
